Coron, Palawan - Day 2 | WWII Gunboat, Colomboyan Island, Coral Gardens
In day two of our Coron trip, we get to experience more of the Coron islands. But before we headed the islands, we woke up early to witness the beautiful Coron sunrise. Although it was a not-so-easy 718-step stair climb on Mt. Tapyas, it was all worth every sweat drop. We reached the top just in time, giving us the opportunity to witness every second of the Coron sunrise.
I don’t know what happened but the thing I hated the most about this part was that I forgot to change the white balance of my camera. But even though we had bluish pictures, it wasn’t that difficult to convince myself that we have great pictures and besides, the experience was far more important.
On the way back to Coron Village Lodge for breakfast, we passed by the San Agustin Parish. And what’s for breakfast? We had danguit, beef tapa, egg and garlic rice.
We met with our same bangkero and his son and off we went to the second part of our Coron island hopping. First stop, the WWII Gunboat. We did a lot of snorkeling on this area. We saw the gunboat’s cannon but we did not swim around it that much because we’re a little “afraid”. We just wanted to see the fishes.
After snorkeling in the WWII Gunboat area, we did another hour boat ride to Calomboyan Island (“lomboy” or “lumboy” means “duhat” or java plum). This is where we ate our lunch, did some photoshoot and slept in the island’s hammock. What’s for lunch? We had inihaw na tangigue (Spanish mackerel), pork adobo and ensaladang seaweed (ewe! haha).
After resting in Colomboyan Island, we went to the Coron Coral Gardens for another snorkeling. I must say, this is the best so far out of all the snorkeling sites I’ve been to (Boracay, Puerto Galera, Caramoan, Bataan, Batangas, Hundred Islands).
Video (Snorkeling in Coron Coral Gardens)
I wanted to go to the shore but there were tons of sea urchins.
But really, nothing beats this coral garden.
