In day 3 of our Coron, Palawan trip, we experienced the safari adventure in Calauit Island, Busuanga. We woke up early because we were excited to see grazing zebras and we can’t wait to experience feeding giraffes. Coron Village Lodge also told us to wake up early for the animals are only there during mornings and they tend to go back to the forest in the afternoon.

After drinking coffee, we started our 3-hour trip to Calauit. Since it’s just around 4 in the morning, we’re all sleeping in the van on our way to the island.

After reaching our destination, we then need to take a 5-minute banca ride to the island. At this time, the sun had risen making the view of the island magnificent. We can’t help but take some shots for around 10 minutes in just the docks of Calauit Island.

After eating the packed breakfast Lan, our Coron Village Lodge tour guide, prepared for us, we started walking to the entrance of the sanctuary as we were greeted by the local Calamian deers.

Few more steps and we can already see the plains of the islands.

While waiting for the safari truck, Rudolf (the deer) and Mylene (the giraffe) welcomed us.

We wasted no time, grabbed the branches and hurriedly experience the “feeding of the giraffe”. Haha

The safari truck arrived and we spent the entire morning touring the island. We saw zebras, another giraffe (Gerry), an antelope, more Calamian deers, alligators, porcupines, a bear cat, wild boars, chickens, squirrels, etc.

Going home, we took our packed lunch in one of the carinderias in Busuanga (Risie’s place (of PDA Little Dreamers hehe)) then we headed to our stop-over, the Concepcion falls.

Coron, Palawan - Concepcion Falls, Busuanga, Palawan

The Concepcion falls is located in Barangay Concepcion in Busuanga. To go there, you can take a bus from Coron or a tricycle (not sure on this one) from Busuanga. After a 5-minute trek from the main road, you will see this small, fresh-looking, and “oh-i’d-like-to-take-a-dip” waterfalls with crystal clear waters and some fishes to play around with.

And of course, before going home, we visited the cashew “factory”. Hmmm… why is this called “factory” when para lang siyang isang maliit na tindahan… hahaha

Coron, Palawan - Cashew Factory

Everything was awesome in Calauit Island. This made our Coron trip really really worth it.

And oh, before I forget, we had Fried Tangigue and Sinigang na Sugpo for dinner. Oh my!

How to go to Calauit Island from Coron
There are two ways in going to Calauit Island from Coron:
1. By boat/banca - You may hire a boat in Coron that will take you to Calauit Island. The locals there said that this is faster compared to travelling by land.
2. By van - You may hire a van or FX in Coron that will take you to Calauit Island. This is what we did since we did not want to travel by boat at night.
